I met Katie and Patrick last Fall in a field of sunflowers for a portrait session, they are so sweet together and I was so grateful for her kind words after their session. Katie has a way with words and these words will forever stick with me: "To us this is a really messy time in our lives. It's dangerous and chaotic and anxious and scary. Predeployment is really a balance of violently grieving the guaranteed absence of your spouse while still trying to enjoy the present time you have with them. With that comes a really tragic and gracious beauty. And as weird as it sounds, I kind of want to document that. Because when he comes home a year from now, we won't be the same. We will have to get to know each other all over again. This is the last time we will be who we are, right now, before this separation."
Thank you for your service, Patrick! Wishing you both well during this time!
